Fabulous Flamenco History
Each June, the National Institute of Flamenco and the University of New Mexico host Festival Flamenco Albuquerque to bring the finest flamenco artists in the world to New Mexico. The pulse of dance fills the city, transforming it into a cultural epicenter for eight musical days. This tradition celebrates flamenco, the ancient form of artistic expression of Spanish culture. While the presentation aspect is primarily cultivated for those seeking an aesthetic experience, the educational piece aims to promote unique and culturally relevant learning experiences for artistic practitioners, theorists, and newcomers.
The educational aspect of the festival include a series of over thirty workshops and lectures covering multiple aspects of flamenco, such as the history and development of the art form, dance, and rhythmic sound patterns. Designed for students of all ages and backgrounds, these classes create a multi-generational, diverse atmosphere that promotes excellence, knowledge, and personal growth.
By producing Festival Flamenco for thirty-one years, New Mexico is the epicenter for this art form in the United States, attracting over 5,500 students and patrons to this one-of-a-kind event, unparalleled in the quality of its scope and programming. A number of festivals celebrating the arts occur annually; it is the precision, vigilance, and cultural relevance in the vision of this festival that causes it to stand out.

No festival would be complete without performances! Festival Flamenco Albuquerque brings world-class artists to Albuquerque for a week of explosive performances at Rodey Theatre, the Experimental Theatre at the University of New Mexico, and the Albuquerque Journal Theatre at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Ticket Packages are available and include a ticket to 7 performances during the festival (Saturday, June 15– Friday, June 21). Packages are discounted 20%-30% off the total price of tickets at mid-range and high-range prices. Ticket packages do not include a ticket to the final Fiesta Flamenca performance on Saturday, June 22nd. Individual Tickets available mid- to late March at the box office of each venue.
