Happy Friday! This week’s Photo Friday features the ladders at Sky City, Acoma Pueblo.
This is the time of year when the pueblos hold their feast holidays, some of which are open to the public. According to the cultural center’s website, Sky City is “part of New Mexico’s cultural heritage, as the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in North America and the 28th Historic Site designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Acoma history is also the story of the Southwest, from its initial role as the home to the Anasazi people, to the thirteenth century founding of the Pueblo, which is still alive and well as a community and touchstone for Native Americans in the area and nationwide.”
Upcoming Events at Sky City at Acoma Pueblo:
July 14: Cochiti Pueblo: Saint Bonaventure Feast Day, Corn dances
3rd weekend in July: Eight Northern Indian Pueblos: 36th Annual Arts and Crafts Show. Jicarilla Apache: Little Beaver Celebration and dances. Includes Pro-Indian/Open Rodeo, powwow, dances and more
