With three weeks of vacation time from the bank, Bruce decided to head towards Yellowstone with his dog, Chalaco. Having worked in Yellowstone for a summer as a teenager, Bruce went back to Wyoming for a new adventure. However, snow and rain began to fall and, needing to dry out, Bruce and Chalaco changed course for Utah.
Bruce and his dog piled into Bruce’s Jeep and drove to Capitol Reef National Park. At the far northern end is Cathedral Valley which, at the time, was only accessible by four wheel drive at the time. Bruce took his Jeep out there and the landscape looked like a mini Sedona, but empty–perfect for someone in need of some breathing room.
Bruce spent three or four nights in Cathedral Valley and didn’t see a single soul other than his dog. Finally, after taking his break from society, he drove to Moab, Utah for a few days. Moab is a hub for outdoor sports, including rock climbing and cycling. This little city has also been featured in several movies including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Thelma and Louise, 127 Hours, and 2009’s Star Trek. Additionally, if you are a fan of HBO’s Westworld, you might recognize some of the landscape as well.
At the end of his vacation, Bruce returned to Denver and carried the afterglow of his time in Utah with him to work. But before long, the glow of Bruce’s vacation wore o and he realized he wanted something different. He’d greatly enjoyed his job at the bank in Denver, but the time had come for him to move on to a new adventure.
The only question was . . . what did he want to do?
Bruce came to the conclusion that he wanted to just camp and take photos in Utah. He just had to figure out how to make that his new reality.
